Evaluation Question 5 – How did you attract/address your audience?

I attracted my audience in a number of ways, first starting with my choice of colours throughout my magazine. A lot of blacks, reds and whites were used – the red and whites help played against the blacks. The colours are used to brighten up the magazine throughout, in order to be eye-catching - because, of course, bright colours gains an audiences attention.

My actor on my cover is an attractive, young male. This appeals to both genders. His direct mode of address certainly helps with bring in an audience, as it almost allows the actor to feel as-though he is looking personally to the audience.

For my cover, especially, I have included names and images of famous artists. The reason for this is because using globally recognised names will allow my target audience to be attracted to my magazine. Artists such as "Green Day" and "Paramore" have a fan base consisting of millions, so the possibility that "Green Day"/"Paramore" fans will be interested in the magazine is exceptionally high. It will also portray the magazine as quite exclusive considering its content is about/evolved around such famous people.

Evaluation Question 4 - Who would be the audience for your media product?

The target audience for my magazine is both female and male. Aimed for ages between 14 years to around 19. My style model is “Kerrang!” who has near enough the same target audience. Not only that but my model is aged 17 years – so he too is young, and he will attract a young audience. My cover

My price of my magazine is important to my audience as it is priced at a low £2.50, which of course is cheap, but the cheap price allows it to be extremely affordable for a young audience. The reason for the lack of expense is really due to the fact that my audience are only young and cannot be affording to be purchasing expensive magazines. For example: "Rolling Stone' magazine costs £6.00 an issue. The audience for "Rolling Stone" is a much more mature audience, this is because of it's contents and choice of artists. Artists such as "The Beatles" or "The Ramones".

Magazines such as "Kerrang!" have inside posters, which of course will not aim towards a mature audience. A young audience will be attracted to the free posters. I too have "posters inside".

Evaluation Question 3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

"Bauer Media Group" is a European-based media company that is headquartered in Hamburg, Germany. The company manages a portfolio of more than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV stations around the world. The portfolio includes print shops, postal, distribution and marketing services. Bauer Media Group has a workforce of approximately 11,000 employees in 17 countries.

I personally would choose "Bauer Media Group" to be the distributer for my "VOLUME" magazine, and the reason i think this is an ideal choice is due to the fact that "Bauer" is responsible for distributing, my style model, "Kerrang!" magazine - which of course is a very, very successful magazine and has sold millions of copies sold world-wide. I aim for my magazine to be successful like "Kerrang"! as the two are very similar.

"Bauer Media Group" is also responsible for distributing radio stations and TV channels. Examples for these would be KISS, Magic and more media types. I would like it for my magazine to be launched by such a famous distributer as i'd like magazine to be launched and sold on a worldwide range/scales.

Evaluation Question 2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The target audience for my magazine is both female and male, aged between 14 – 19. This is portrayed throughout my cover, contents and my double page spread. This is shown because the model is 17 years of age and male, who can attract to both males and female, and the young model will certainly attract a much more immature audience.

On my front cover, Tom (the model) is giving off a very laid back, yet fierce attitude. His lack of formality suggests that he’ll still quite young and rebellious, and not yet an adult. His emotionless expression, allows the audience to want to find out what kind of personality the model has as he doesn’t express much emotion. This attitude represents a particular social group, I believe that it represents young people as independent. It helps bring in the correct audience that I’d like to appeal to – those who love rock music, and those who portray themselves as unique (and perhaps an outcast).

My price of my magazine is rather key, also – it is priced at a low £2.50, which of course is very cheap for the average magazine. This is definitely an affordable priced magazine, especially suited for such a young audience. A magazine like “Kerrang!” is priced at a low £2.20, “Kerrang!” too share the same target audience as myself. The low price also allows it to sell a lot easier as it will not sell at an expensive price of £5 or so.

Self Assessment - Level

I personally see a few similarities between my work, and another level 3 work. This has allowed me to assess myself, giving myself an estimation grade of level 3.

Magazine Conventions: Central Image

This image here will be my central image for my magazine. The way Tom is presented is emotionless and dark. Tom relies on the audience to know that he is a Rock musician from the way he is portraying himself in the image. His direct mode of address is eye-catching to the audience.
